This training explores the rich symbolic language that emerges through
sandplay and play therapy, offering clinicians a deeper understanding of
the unconscious communication expressed through children’s play.
Participants will learn how symbols, themes, and narratives develop within
the sandtray, and how these expressions can provide insight into the
child’s inner world, emotional experiences, and developmental process.
We will also will explore the sandplay process, including ideas about how
to introduce sandplay to clients, how the therapist can hold the
therapeutic space while the client is woking, and what to do after the client
leaves the session.
Goals and Objectives:
1. Identify 3 healing powers of sandplay and play therapy.
2. Explain 2 ways sandplay in the play therapy room helps heal trauma.
3. Describe how signs are different from symbols.
4. List 2 ways to learn more about about symbols and metaphor in the
sandplay and play therapy room.
5. Describe 2 ways to explain sandplay in the play therapy room to
clients.
6. Experience what the therapist should do while the client is working,
and after they leave the therapy room.
